Application of CO₂ gas shielded welding robots in heavy industry

In the fields of large steel structures such as bridge engineering and shipbuilding, traditional manual welding faces problems such as low efficiency, high labor intensity, and quality fluctuations. With its characteristics of large penetration depth, high speed, and strong adaptability, the carbon dioxide gas shielded welding robot has become the core equipment to break through the bottleneck of ultra-thick plates and long welds, and promote the intelligentization of heavy industrial welding.

In response to the multi-pass and multi-layer welding requirements of 20-50mm thick steel plates, the robot corrects the welding path in real time through the arc tracking system to achieve a single-pass welding speed of 1.2m/min, which is 4 times higher than manual efficiency. The digital twin system is used to restore the actual equipment status in the software 1:1, and the welding sequence of ultra-large components (such as ship sections and wind turbine towers) can be independently planned to eliminate the cumulative error caused by thermal deformation.

The intelligent gas flow control system reduces CO₂ consumption by 25%, and with the mobile smoke purification device, the PM10 concentration in the operation area is reduced to below 8mg/m³.

At present, CO₂ gas shielded welding robots have been applied on a large scale in many 10,000-ton steel structure projects, and the annual welding volume of a single machine has exceeded 18,000 tons of steel. With the popularization of remote monitoring and group control systems, this technology is promoting the transformation of heavy industrial welding from "manpower-intensive" to "intelligent intensive", providing key technical support for global infrastructure upgrades.
